About School District of Indian River County

The district calendar lists Monday, August 10, 2026, as the first student day for schools in Vero Beach, Sebastian and Fellsmere. Elementary and K–8 orientations were scheduled for August 5, middle school orientation for August 6 and high school orientation for August 7. Open houses in September and parent-teacher conference nights in October also take place on different dates by school level. Families with children at more than one school may have separate events to attend.

Students have two separate Fridays off in October: October 23, following conference nights, and October 30, for teacher professional learning. Classes are scheduled October 26–29 in between, so there is no weeklong fall break. Another round of conference nights takes place February 9–11, followed by a student-free Friday on February 12 and Presidents’ Day on Monday, February 15.

Thanksgiving break runs November 23–27. The district lists Winter Break from December 21 through January 1, but January 4 and 5 are also student-free, so classes do not resume until Wednesday, January 6. Spring break is March 22–26, with a scheduled March 29 return.

Students still attend on the five modified instructional days, December 17–18 and May 26–28. The Parent Guide lists normally shortened dismissal hours, although emergency make-up needs may change them. May 28 is also the last student day.

When is the last day of school in Indian River County in 2027?

Friday, May 28, 2027, is the last student day and the end of the fourth grading quarter. It is a modified instructional day, so students attend on an adjusted schedule. Confirm the dismissal time with your school.

Can hurricane make-up days change the school calendar or dismissal times?

Yes, changes are possible if emergency make-up time is needed. The district calendar specifically notes that dismissal on modified instructional days depends on emergency make-up needs. It does not identify fixed hurricane make-up holidays. Follow district announcements for any actual change.

Is there a full fall break in October 2026?
